Microneedling is one of those versatile aesthetic treatments that improves the condition, look, and health of the skin from the inside out. It works by penetrating the skin in targeted clusters using a series of tiny needles, puncturing the top layer of the skin and triggering the body’s natural healing process.
The reasons for seeking out microneedling treatment, and the reported results, vary from client to client. However, while the outcome and results vary, the questions clients ask are always the same. Here are a couple of the most commonly asked questions and the answers from our team of aesthetic professionals.
How Often Do I Need Microneedling?
Microneedling is priced per session, meaning that clients don’t have to commit to a costly package but can instead access the treatment they need. Having said that, the best results are often reported after anywhere between 3 and 6 treatments, spaced a couple of weeks apart to give the skin time to heal and stimulate internal repairs, before being provoked and activated again.
It’s worth noting under this FAQ that the downtime for microneedling is minimal, with treatment being completed in under an hour (depending on the treatment area).
What Results Will I See and Are Results Instant?
The results of microneedling are dictated by the client’s intention; that is, why they sought microneedling treatment and which area of their face they wanted to target. Microneedling is, by definition, an incredibly targeted treatment as it stimulates natural healing and the production of both new cells and collagen in the exact area of treatment.
Typically, the results include improved skin texture, a reduction in imperfections, scars, and marks, minimised pores, and both the reduction and prevention of common signs of aging. It is, however, important to note that microneedling alone cannot alleviate or remove deep-set wrinkles and lines, mainly because it does not inject anything into the skin and relies solely on the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin.
Any results that you do see will usually become apparent within a session or two, with the best results reported by those who undergo a series of microneedling sessions on a consistent and regular timeline.
Does it Hurt?
Back to the very first question asked in the title of this blog: Does microneedling hurt?
With lots of tiny pricks to the surface of the skin, microneedling may sound like a painful procedure, but it’s not! In fact, most clients report minimal discomfort, thanks to the numbing cream that’s applied by the aesthetician prior to treatment.
There are instances where microneedling is not suitable. For example, if a client has broken or irritated skin, which the microneedling may exacerbate. However, all this and more can be discussed at the initial consultation between you and your aesthetician, alongside any other questions or concerns you may have.
