We all fantasise about owning the flashiest and fastest cars, most of us know that attaining these spectacular cars is probably out of our reach. But even then, we still want to drool and stare open mouthed at these specimens of mechanical excellence. This blog will accelerate head-on into oncoming traffic to look at five of the fastest cars ever built, the only criteria is that they must be road legal to drive in the UK.
1) 9ff GT9-R
Based off the Porsche 911, this incredible car was designed with speed in mind. The previous GT9 model had missed out on the speed record by a minuscule 2mph, so the German based tuning company decided to build this GT9-R version. The car packs an incredible amount of power, its 1,120bhp engine can produce a top speed of 257mph and accelerate to 190mph is just 16 seconds. 9ff only built a limited amount of these monsters and only 20 possessed the true power of this incredible machine.
2) SSC Ultimate Aero TT
The Ultimate Aero TT may no longer be in production, but it once sat upon the fastest cars mountain for three years before the Bugatti Veyron came along. Now sitting in fourth place, the Ultimate Aero TT packs a punch with its 1,287bhp engine which can generate a top speed of 257mph. The cost of owning such raw power will set you back a cool half a million, but for a car which is now out of production – you would be owning a piece of automotive history. SSC have plans for a follow up model of the Ultimate Aero TT which would reach speeds of 276mph.
3) Koenigsegg Agera R
Koenigsegg – impossible to spell and impossible to ignore. The Swedish car manufacturers have consistently made some of the most outlandish and unbelievable cars in existence. In 2011 they introduced the Agera R to the world, a stunning car which could make you weep with its gorgeous bodywork and then tear your face off with its almighty speed. The 1,115bhp engine will reach an earth-shattering 260mph, astonishingly this car is actually a little more eco-friendly than traditional power hungry supercars, running on a bio-fuel which produces more horsepower than the common petrol tank.
4) Hennessey Venom GT – 265.7mph
Coming in second place is the Hennessey Venom GT. This speed demon is officially the quickest car in the world, accelerating to speeds of 186mph in a mere 13.63 seconds – but despite reaching a top speed of 265.7mph, it fails to take top spot. The Venom GT is a highly modified and tuned Lotus Exige, fitted with a twin turbocharged engine which can produce a venomous 1,244bhp. Earlier this year the Venom GT actually held top spot for a brief period of time after controversies surrounding the speed limiter of the car in top spot, but the decision was reversed and the Venom GT slipped back into second
5)Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – 268mph
The fastest road legal car ever produced is the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, this behemoth is the pinnacle of engineering. It goes beyond what people thought was possible for a road car, reaching the herculean speed of 268mph. There have been multiple attempts from car manufacturers to beat or replicate the speed of the Bugatti, but all have just been left eating the Veyron Super Sport’s dust. The performance of this astounding car is mind-blowing, at top speed it can cover a mile is less than a minute thanks to an engine that produces a huge 1,200bhp. The cost of this spectacular feat of engineering is an eye watering $2.4 Million, but with all the additional add-ons will drive the price closer to $5 Million.
I realise this blog is grounded more in fantasy, realistically it will be hard to amass half a million pounds to buy these carbon fibered beasts. Even the cost of more conventional road cars can bring tears to your eyes. When buying a new car, it can be extremely difficult to gather the funds needed. Most of us turn to car finance packages to help, but even this can be a stressful task to undertake. If you have not got a perfect financial history then the major lenders will most likely turn you away. That is where CarMax Finance can help, they provided a guaranteed car finance scheme to help lead you back to solid tarmac after been left out in the cold by other finance providers.
