Optimistic Mindsets Helps Avoid Relapses

David Duayeni · March 8, 2017 · Leave a Comment

The way in which people think actually impacts the way in which they are going to experience the world. People who are prone to negativity potentially set themselves up for misery in their future life. Positive thinking on the other hand has been seen as improving people’s physical and mental well-being. It can in fact be rather beneficial for people who are trying to construct a new life in the recovery from addiction. It is necessary that you don’t let negative thoughts take over when you’ve relapsed.

Positive thinking can play a very necessary role as people would learn to adjust their mindset towards a healthier approach which is instrumental in beating rather persistent addictions. Listed below are the seven ways in which you can stay positive during recovery.

Relationships and Commitment

According to the studies, individuals who consider themselves as happy, share a close bond with other people. It’s important that you don’t let negative thoughts take over when you’ve relapsed. Just having a large group of friends isn’t important. What is necessary is that happier people seem to connect well with other people, make significant friendships and then bond with those people. You can start on a smaller level by talking to your family and friends, people who matter. It would definitely lead you to a happier place.

Indulge in Giving Back

Giving back always helps. You might offer service to the Alcoholics group or through other groups. But doing things for other people without having any intention of rewards should be your topmost priority. Volunteering is in fact a great way to connect with other people and give it back to the society. If you feel that you are not wouldn’t be able to handle offering service in a nursing home or hospital, you can offer to walk the dogs at the local shelter.

Indulge in Your Hobbies

Every person has some hobby or the other. One must always indulge in something that makes them happier. Art, pottery, cooking or needlework might be something that you like and it is a good idea to indulge in that. You can even try cycling, skating or horse riding if that makes you happy. Just let yourself enjoy that moment and it would make you feel relaxed, joyful and exhilarated,

Proper Sleep, Exercise and Nutrition

Drugs and alcohol affect the body and that can lead to negative moods which can have an even greater effect. Meditation as well as regular exercise can help to ease depression and make you feel a lot better even physically. If you feel that gym is not for you, you can try doing some yoga. Find activities that you might enjoy doing all by yourself or with a group of people. With more and more people wanting a healthier life, most of the areas have meet ups which have all the kinds of activities that you think of right from aerobics to Frisbee to tango.

Happiness is related to a certain kind of self-knowledge. At this stage it might be common to turn into a critic for yourself. But thinking positively can help people to feel mentally, physically and emotionally better.
